Storing Wine At Home

Posted on January 24, 2019 in Wine Musings, Wine 101

Believe it or not there is a right and wrong way of storing your wine! Wine is a very delicate thing that can easily be turned into vinegar… ew no thank you!

So you want to save your wine for a special occasion or a rainy day, here are the do’s and don’ts of storing wine at home.

Temperature control is super important. At the correct temp between 50 – 58 degrees your wines will be happily resting for as long as you’d like. If you don’t have a cool and dark wine nook or wine fridge, you can always keep them in your closet. Attics, garages, and above the washing machine are all off limits. Don’t keep your wine in the kitchen unless you have a wine fridge (away from the dishwasher). We say this because too much temperature fluctuation can cause your wine to become cooked and also speed up the aging process.

You always want to store bottles on their sides. If they are screw cap then you don’t have to worry about that, because the purpose is to keep the cork from drying out. If the cork gets dried out, too much air can get into the bottle and lead to oxidization. Once wine oxidizes there’s nothing you can really do to save it.

Follow these tips and you’ll never have to worry about your wine going bad, whether you’re opening a bottle for tonight’s dinner, next week, or a few years down the line.

Cheers!

Wineos for Rhinos!

Posted on January 22, 2019 in Wine Musings, Giving Back

Wilson Creek is happy to contribute to the efforts of a great organization like the Global Conservation Force.

Global Conservation Force (GCF) is dedicated to saving wildlife from extinction through education, anti-poaching and conservations efforts.

We have the unique opportunity to help save and protect the last 67 Javan Rhino. Global Conservation Force is partnering with the Ujung Kulon National Park Authority and Friends of Rhino Foundation to help protect the Javan Rhino. The goal of the project is to create secure conditions for the marine and terrestrial biodiversity in and around Ujung Kulon National Park. The formation and implementation of a marine protection unit (MPU) will help deter illegal fishing, coral fishes poaching, rhino, and bird poachers and protect sea turtle nesting sites.

GIVING BACK AND HAVING FUN

The Most Memorable Wedding

Posted on November 13, 2018 in Weddings

They say a wedding coordinator is one of the most stressful jobs out there, but it could also be the most rewarding.

On Friday afternoon, I received a phone call from a desperate bride who just lost her wedding venue in Malibu from the Woolsey Fire. She was scheduled to get married the very next day when she found out it had been cancelled. Her and her fiancé had 235 guests that all made the trip out to celebrate their wedding weekend, and several of them flew in from Portugal.

Unfortunately, our venue was fully committed on Saturday, but they were able to inform all of their vendors and guests that the wedding will be held at Wilson Creek Winery on Sunday instead. Our amazing chef was able to put together a menu and get a rush order of food for 235 people in the matter of minutes while our event captain secured enough staff on a holiday weekend to make this whole day happen. The bride and groom were beyond grateful for our Wilson Creek Family who made a wedding of this caliber happen on one day’s notice.

I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out, and I owe it all to our amazing team at Wilson Creek Winery. Thank you everyone who played a part in today. It was definitely the most memorable wedding I have ever been a part of, and it’s days like these that make me realize just how special my job really is. ♥️

This story was shared from Jenae Keys, one of our amazing Events Sales Managers!

Have The Most Wonderful Party Of The Year

Posted on November 2, 2018 in Wine Musings

As the Hostess with the Mostess…Its beginning to feel like fall and the good news is there’s still time to plan an unforgettable Holiday event at Wilson creek Winery.

Hurry up as the most desirable dates are filling up!

Time is of the Essence

The closer we get to the Holiday season, the less likely we will be able to find flexibility in choosing an event date that works best for all of your attendees. I’ve noticed an uptick in demand over the first two weeks in December, so I recommend planning as soon as possible to ensure your spot at Wilson Creek Winery where “Our home is your home.” If you are a wine club member or an active Military Member we offer a discount on your event!  We have amazing venues for any size party. Our beautiful Ballroom, lovely barrel room, stunning upper room, and a quaint Garden View Terrace Room.

Make Time to Customize

To me, the most important reason to get the ball rolling is to allow sufficient time for customization, that way the date of your event is attended by all, if not most of your employees. In addition to the basics, and if timing permits, you can further customize this year’s party by having custom labels made on our outstanding sparkling wine or sumptuous reds or whites.

Keep it Relaxed

Planners can make holiday parties fun and unique without over thinking it. The elements that matter most to your guests are good food, good wine and beer, music , and of course good company.

If a formal and elegant event isn’t what you are looking for, perhaps grape stomping or a scavenger hunt through the winery, a simple s’mores party by our fire pits or of course a happy wine hour with ugly sweaters and white elephant gifts. These are more relaxed functions that allow interaction and attendees have a great time with their colleagues and peers.

Think Local Entertainment

Let our staff give you some great names of local artists or DJS that frequent Wilson Creek Winery. They will know the ins and outs of the property and what works well with our noise ordinance. I think you’ll find the local entertainment at reasonable costs compared to other options. Strolling Carolers, Photo Booths, or Magicians can really pick up the company fun as well.

Tis’ the Season for Giving

If you choose to go with a more casual affair, it can be more cost effective, allowing your company to make a charitable component. I recommend getting attendees involved in giving back. Maybe providing a silent auction that supports a local community organization, or encouraging employees to donate canned foods to a local food bank to be entered into a raffle or a giveaway.

Consider Accommodations

When planning an evening party, I highly recommend accommodation options for attendees. We happen to have the lovely Wilson Creek Manor located across the street from Wilson Creek Winery and it is a 12,000 square foot Mansion that supports 9 rooms and sleeps 27 guests. It has a lovely gourmet kitchen, and a stunning backyard fit for a King. For pre-party fun or after party wind down the Manor offers a game room and a large living room area with a beautiful bar that for a few dollars more, Wilson Creek Winery can stock that with all of your company holiday favorite wines! PS we have some amazing Hot Rates for the Manor right now that you want to take advantage of!!

We hope to be a part of your Unique Holiday Celebrations this year!
